Minutes
-------

1. Actions from last meeting

STH has received data from Sandy Legget. Unfortunately the two scheduled
nights were clouded over and a previous night of data was sent to STH.
This is regarded as a start. STH will check the data and (probably)
send in a request for more data. <<<<

STH corrected an error in the yearly totals for the WP spreadsheet. He
pointed out that the PS and PDF versions had not been updated yet. It was
agreed that in addition to the XLS version only a PDF version will be
     supplied in future.

MJI have made progress with the pipeline milestones tasks and dates. It still
JRL needs some work on dates before it can be released on the web page <<<<

MJI has made no progress regarding finding out about the UKIDSS Survey
Manager appointment on Hawaii. This will await AA's return from
     holiday. <<<<

MJI has started updating Section 2. of DFS user requirements document.
     This action is ongoing. <<<<

JRL placed V0.6 of FITS header document on docs web page - now awaiting ROE
     progress on this.

PSB updated the DFS docs

JMI updated simulation report and has placed on the internal web pages.
+ALL Comments from rest of CASU group are still expected before the document
goes public. These should be sent to JMI by Monday afternoon.
This also applies to the image subtraction and DQC document <<<<

MJI has sent JRL the latest version of imcore_wfcam

MJI contacted Mark Casali regarding the engineering data status. He is
awaiting a reply. [Received following reply shortly after the meeting
included here for ease of reference]

"No, no new data - we've had problems with the detectors - damage due to
thermal cycling. We've been working with a specialist from Rockwell here
for the last week trying to find the problem...hope to be testing again
soon, but we clearly have substantial verification to do before we are
confident enough to test another detector."

2. Comments on WFAU minutes

It was noted that the LT01 vs LT02 compatibility tests have been carried out
successfully at ROE.

3. Progress for monthly report

STH noted that he wanted the monthly reports in by Friday afternoon (Monday
at the latest) based on the deliverables for the quarter and updating
the 03Q3m1 document. <<<<

DWE said that he had been in contact with Emmanuel Bertin and has now got
SWarp working with fractional pixel shifts as expected.

4. Comments on JMI reports prior to release:
     (a) Difference imaging (b) Simulations (c) DQC info

As mentioned previously, further comments on these to JMI as soon as
possible and by Monday afternoon at latest. MJI has already handed in his
comments.

STH said that one of the things needed in (a) is more of an introduction.
For example, what is adaptive kernel matching? This should be short, but
something is needed by readers that know little about this subject. What is
image subtraction used for ? [Added by MJI after - MJI disagreed somewhat,
commenting the report is not meant to be a standalone review but rather a
a comparison of different image subtraction techniques. However, he will
add a brief introduction plus references setting the context before placing
it on the public web page.] <<<<

Also it was felt that (a) needed a conclusions and a summary section. This
is related to previous comments that it was difficult to quantify how good
a difference imaging algorithm was performing. Considering how the results
would be used by the users might be a reasonable way of looking at this.
[Added by MJI after - this comes later in phase II of the work and the
report. The current document is interim (Phase I) but should be released
for external comment now].

Report (b) was considered by STH to be ready for release soon (before
monthly meeting).

In general, both (a) and (b) required a little more concerning context ie.
why are we doing this? what will the results be used for? what are the
requirements? etc. <<<<

Document (c) is a demonstration of DQC and pipeline progress monitoring
rather than a report. Although none are in final form, since these are
all working documents they should all be released on the public side of
the web page before the MC meeting for feedback. <<<<

5. Discussion of On-Sky Characterization

JRL commented that the persistence part of the characterization did not deal
with the spreading of the image. Persistence has a spatial as well as a
temporal part that needs to be quantified.

STH was concerned about the setting up of the photometric standard fields.
It didn't seem to be very prominent. This needs to be included in the WFCAM
timeline and clarified within the characterization plan. STH needs to email
Paul Hirst or Andy Adamson. <<<<

MJI had sent in some comments that were similar to STH's.

6. ESO docs and VISTA fits headers

JRL said that he had looked at the headers document. He will send in his
comments to PSB. <<<<

DWE raised the issue about the requirement to have the EQUINOX keyword in
the FITS header. It was pointed out that if the keyword RADECSYS is "ICRS"
then equinox has no meaning ie. the ICRS is not linked to the Earth's pole.
By leaving it in you run the risk of confusion. MJI pointed out that by
removing it you run the risk of most packages not working.

Concerning the ESO documents, in the DID the FITS headers description has
been written, CalDoc has been updated and there is no change in the User
Requirements Document. We all should have a read of these and provide
comments for PSB. <<<<

When JRL is at ADASS he will talk to ESO attendees regarding CPL.

7. AOB

JRL said that he had been in touch with Paul Aslin concerning the renewal of
our contracts. It would seem that since our contracts only need renewal in
October, the University has put the work on hold since it needs to sort out
their September contracts first.
